With winter well and truly here, we are waking up to very fresh mornings and chilly breezes throughout the day. Melbourne is known to have some unpredictable weather and we have been lucky enough to have some days where the sun has been shining. Although it is cold out, there is plenty happening in Melbourne and around the northern suburbs. So, it’s time to get your winter woolies on and head out to enjoy all the winter activities around town.
A fun night out close to the CBD in Melbourne is the Queen Victoria Market Night Market. Running from June 5 to August 28, there will be street food stalls, bars, art, fashion, lots of knick knacks and entertainment.
Also, in the CBD, Federation square has a Winter Village set up the top of Federation Square at the Skyline Terrace. There is plenty of entertainment with ice skating, private igloos, bars, pop up desert stations and a bigger igloo dining and drinking hall.
A little out of the CBD is the Reclink Community Cup in Abbotsford. On June 23rd the Reclink community cup will be played at Victoria Park. Reclink cup is a footy game where two teams with not the highest skill levels compete for a bit of fun and to raise money for disadvantaged people. The money raised goes to providing sports and recreation programs to disadvantaged people.
Waste Less for life in Watsonia is a free Zero waste living workshop held at Watsonia Library June 29th at 10 am to 11:30am as well as July 27th 10am to 11:30 am. These workshops are suitable for the whole family where you can learn about recycling, reusing, reducing and refusing waste.
If you’re after something a little quitter and closer to home in the northern suburbs there are plenty of local markets running on weekends throughout the winter. In Bundoora the La Trobe market runs each Sunday all year round including the chilly winter months. The market is popular with locals and a great place to have wander with the family and get yourself some fresh fruit and vegetables.
Also, in the Melbourne’s north is the Coburg Trash and Treasure market. Open each Sunday at the Coburg Drive in on Newlands Rd there are heaps of stalls selling a variety of old and new items. Everything from antiques and secondhand items to more crafty items.
Even though the weather is a little on the chilly side there is still plenty of reason to get out and about and see what Melbourne has to offer during the winter months.
